"IGTR" is the name three different campuses share — Ahmedabad, Aurangabad and Indore. Each is a Ministry of MSME tool room built with German help, and each runs its own courses, fees and admission calendar. That is why searching "IGTR courses" turns up three websites in three formats. This guide puts them side by side for 2026: the diplomas and short courses, the official fees and age limits, the extension centres in Pune, Nagpur, Sanand, Jabalpur and elsewhere, the tooling services MSMEs can buy, and how to choose between IGTR and the other MSME tool rooms.

Quick answer

IGTR (Indo-German Tool Room) is a group of three Government of India societies under the Ministry of MSME — in Ahmedabad, Aurangabad and Indore — set up with the Federal Republic of Germany to train tool makers and serve small manufacturers. All three run AICTE-approved diplomas in Tool & Die Making and Mechatronics, plus short CAD/CAM and CNC courses.

  • Diploma entry: Class 10 with 60% (50% for reserved categories), age 15–19 years; selection by entrance test

  • Fees: Ahmedabad ₹23,000/semester; Aurangabad ₹1,92,000 for the 4-year ADTDM; Indore ₹46,000/year

  • SC/ST candidates pay no tuition at Ahmedabad and Aurangabad

  • Tool room services: press tools, moulds, dies, jigs, CNC machining and CMM inspection for MSMEs

What IGTR is

The Indo-German Tool Rooms came out of a bilateral agreement between India and the Federal Republic of Germany. IGTR Ahmedabad's disclosure dates its agreement to June 1989, with the society registered in 1990. Aurangabad names the German technical cooperation agency GTZ and the Government of Maharashtra as partners. Indore says it has offered tooling and training since 1995, with Madhya Pradesh's support. Today all three are among the Ministry of MSME's 18 Tool Rooms and Technology Centres, and Indore now calls itself "MSME Technology Centre Indore".

The Ministry's dashboard gives each one a slightly different industrial focus. Ahmedabad (igtrahd.com) serves general engineering with auto parts and plastic components. Aurangabad (igtr-aur.org) focuses on metal auto parts. Indore (igtr-indore.com) covers auto parts and pharmaceutical plastics.

Each campus has a tool room that designs and makes press tools, moulds, dies, jigs, fixtures and gauges, and a training wing that teaches the same trades. Students learn on the machines used for paid industry jobs. See the IGTR Aurangabad profile in our technology centre directory for its map and facilities.

IGTR Ahmedabad

The 2026 notice offered three long courses starting August 2026:

  • Diploma in Tool & Die Making (DTM) — four years, 120 seats, AICTE-approved.
  • Diploma in Mechatronics (DIM) — three years, 30 seats, AICTE-approved.
  • Diploma in Tool & Die Technology — three years, 120 seats, NSQF-aligned, open to any Class 10 pass.

On top of tuition, the disclosure lists a ₹1,800 registration fee, ₹1,000 exam fee and ₹500 library fee per semester, ₹600 placement fee, ₹300 a year accident insurance, ₹200 ID card and a refundable ₹5,000 caution deposit. Parents sign a bond (up to ₹1,84,000 for DTM, ₹1,38,000 for DIM) promising the trainee will finish the course. SC/ST students pay no tuition but pay the other charges. Ahmedabad also runs medium-term NSQF courses such as Junior Designer CAD/CAM, Senior Tool Designer CAD/CAM and Technician – CNC Machining, some under the government's NSSH scheme for SC/ST candidates.

IGTR Aurangabad

Aurangabad's long-term courses through the entrance test are the ADTDM (four years, 120 seats, ₹1,92,000), DIM (three years, 120 seats, ₹1,44,000) and the Certificate Course in Machinist – Tool Room (CCMTR) (two years, 40 seats, ₹80,000). A second set of "direct admission" career courses for BE, diploma, ITI and SSC holders — Aurangabad's placement schedule includes a Post Graduate Diploma in Tool Design & CAD/CAM — is filled first come, first served. New batches start on the first Monday of February, May, August and November. The registration fee becomes a refundable security deposit once you join. SC/ST candidates pay no tuition, and a ₹100-a-day late fee applies to overdue semester fees.

IGTR Indore

Indore lists four diplomas — Advance Diploma in Tool & Die Making (4 years), Mechatronics (3 years) and Computer Science (3 years) at ₹46,000 a year, and a D.Voc in Production Technology at ₹40,000 a year. It also runs two-year NCVT certificate courses for machinist, fitter and turner at ₹26,000 a year. Selection is all-India, by written test and interview, and the advertisement usually appears in April–May. Indore says it trains about 10,000 people a year across AICTE, NCVT and 76 NSQF-aligned short courses, including AI and data courses for working professionals.

Admission: eligibility, dates and the entrance test

Getting into an IGTR diploma

  1. 1

Check the age and marks rule

Class 10 with 60% aggregate (50% for SC/ST and, at Ahmedabad, PH; Indore also includes OBC). Age 15–19 years. Ahmedabad's 2026 window was birth dates from 1 August 2007 to 31 July 2011, with 3 years' relaxation for SC/ST.

  2. 2

    Watch for the notice (April–May)

Each campus publishes its own notice on its website and in local papers. Ahmedabad's 2026 forms were available from 13 April; Indore expects its advertisement in April–May.

  3. 3

    Apply before the last date

Ahmedabad takes forms by post or in person (last date 22 July in 2026). Aurangabad registers entrance candidates online and offers free help at its Chikalthana campus if you struggle with the form.

  4. 4

Prepare and sit the entrance test

Ahmedabad ran free coaching classes from 13 to 23 July 2026, then held the test on 24 July. Selection combines Class 10 marks and the test score. Indore adds a personal interview.

  5. 5

    Counselling, fees and joining

Ahmedabad held counselling on 27 July 2026 and started classes on 17 August. Pay the first-semester fee and deposits, sign the bond, and submit original certificates.

Medium and short courses — CAD/CAM, CNC programming, tool design, PLC, 3D printing — have no entrance test. You fill the form, pay the registration amount, and join the next batch.

Extension and sub-centres

Many "IGTR Pune", "IGTR Swargate" or "IGTR Nagpur" searches are about these satellite centres. They mostly run CAD/CAM, CNC and short courses, not the four-year diploma.

Placements

IGTR Ahmedabad's AICTE disclosure shows how its diploma batches have done:

Batch yearPassedOpted for placementPlacedSalary offered (per annum)
2025-26443535₹2.5–5.0 lakh
2024-25555554₹2.5–5.0 lakh
2023-24525150₹1.8–2.69 lakh
2022-23503535₹1.4–3.0 lakh

Aurangabad lists more than 100 past recruiters, from Bajaj, Tata Motors and Mahindra to Bosch, Endurance, Varroc and HAL. It also says plainly that it "cannot guarantee" placement. Starting pay depends on the city and on how well you can run CNC and EDM machines unsupervised, so treat the upper figures as what the best trainees get.

Tool room services for MSMEs

All three IGTRs sell their tool room time to industry, which is often the main reason an MSME contacts them:

  • Design and manufacture of press tools, injection and blow moulds, die-casting dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges and special-purpose machines.
  • Precision machining on CNC lathes, milling and machining centres, EDM and wire-cut machines.
  • Inspection and reverse engineering on CMMs, plus consultancy on product development and productivity.
  • Specialist work: Indore says it has supplied ISRO, BHEL, HAL, BARC and RRCAT, and was the first in India to develop form-fill-seal (FFS) and blow-fill-seal (BFS) moulds for pharma packaging.

To get a quote, send a drawing or sample to the campus's design and marketing desk, and keep your Udyam registration number ready for MSME scheme paperwork. Compare the quote with private tool makers using our quotation generator, and check the payback on a new die with the break-even calculator.

The other general-engineering tool rooms on the Ministry's list are CTTC Bhubaneswar and CTTC Kolkata, IDTR Jamshedpur, TRTC Guwahati, CTR Ludhiana and CITD Hyderabad. Read our CTTC Bhubaneswar guide for a full eastern-India alternative, CIPET if your interest is plastics, and NSIC Technical Services Centres for short, low-cost courses and government-tender registration.

What to do next

If you are in Class 10 now, note your exact birth date against the age window and bookmark the admission page of the campus nearest you. Notices go up from April, and the tests follow in summer — Ahmedabad's 2026 test was in late July. If you are already an engineer or ITI holder, pick a three- to six-month CAD/CAM or CNC course at the nearest extension centre — no entrance test. If you run a unit, send IGTR one real tooling job as a trial before committing a bigger order.

Frequently asked questions

IGTR stands for Indo-German Tool Room. There are three: Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Aurangabad (now Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra) and Indore (Madhya Pradesh). Each is a Government of India society under the Ministry of MSME, set up under a bilateral agreement with the Federal Republic of Germany and the host state. The Ministry now also calls them MSME Technology Centres.
