CTTC Bhubaneswar is the Ministry of MSME's tool room for eastern India — a training institute where 15-year-olds join a three-year diploma, and a precision workshop that machines parts for ISRO and Hindustan Aeronautics. Students search "CTTC BBSR" for the course list, fees and the entrance test. Small manufacturers look it up for tooling, CNC machining or heat treatment they can't do in-house. This guide gives both groups the official figures for the current 2026-27 session from CTTC's prospectus and website, plus the extension centres across Odisha.

Quick answer

CTTC Bhubaneswar (Central Tool Room & Training Centre) is a Government of India society under the Ministry of MSME at B-36, Chandaka Industrial Area. It runs AICTE-approved three-year diplomas in Tool & Die Making, Mechatronics and Automation & Robotics, NSQF skill courses of 6–12 months, one-month CAD/CNC courses and student internships. It also makes tools and precision parts for industry.

  • Diploma fee: ₹22,000 per semester (3 years (6 semesters)); no course fee for SC/ST

  • Entry: Class 10 with Maths and Science, 50% marks (40% SC/ST), age 15–19 years; entrance test in June

  • Short courses: ₹6,336 for one-month CAD/CNC, ₹34,310 for most six-month NSQF courses

  • Six extension centres in Odisha: Rayagada, Kalinga Nagar, Berhampur, Bhawanipatna, Balasore, Keonjhar

What CTTC Bhubaneswar is

CTTC was set up under a technical cooperation programme between the Governments of India and Denmark; the Odisha government gave the land and buildings. Training began in October 1991 and tool production in 1995. It is one of the Ministry of MSME's 18 Tool Rooms and Technology Centres, and the Ministry lists its specialisation as general engineering with aerospace and precision components. The campus covers 11.3 acres in the Chandaka Industrial Area.

Its governing council is chaired by the Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner (MSME). Members include Odisha's MSME and technical education departments, SIDBI and state industry associations. The diplomas are approved by AICTE and affiliated to Odisha's DTET (Directorate of Technical Education & Training). The centre holds AS 9100 (aerospace), ISO 9001, 14001 and 50001 certifications.

CTTC full form: Central Tool Room & Training Centre. Kolkata has a separate institute with the same name — see the CTTC Kolkata profile — and the CTTC Bhubaneswar centre profile in our directory has the map and equipment summary.

The one-year NSQF courses are first come, first served, with several intakes a year (for example July, September, January and March for Assistant Tool & Die Maker), and fees are paid in instalments. The diploma seat counts are from the 2026-27 prospectus, which adds 10% extra seats for EWS subject to AICTE approval.

Six-month and short courses

CTTC lists 21 six-month NSQF courses. Most technical ones — Jr. Designer CAD/CAM, CNC Programmer – Tool Room, Sr. Technician Mechatronics, Machine Maintenance & Automation, Jr. Embedded Developer, Process Designer – Automation — cost ₹34,310 in two instalments. Entry-level operator courses such as Assistant Operator CNC Milling or Turning (Class 10 pass) and Technician – CNC Machining cost ₹22,500.

For working engineers and students, one-month courses in AutoCAD, CATIA, Creo, Unigraphics (NX), Mastercam, SolidWorks, CNC programming, PLC, SCADA, industrial robotics, IoT and VLSI cost ₹6,336 each. IT courses such as Python, data analytics and AI/ML are ₹5,500. These run in rolling batches — check the training calendar on the website for the next start date.

SC/ST candidates pay no course fee — 22.5% of seats are reserved for them — but must still pay the deposit and any hostel charges. EWS candidates get reserved seats but pay the full fee. The prospectus warns that the security deposit is forfeited if you leave the course midway, and the fee "may be revised" by the governing body.

Worked example — a day scholar in DTDM: 6 × ₹22,000 = ₹1,32,000 in course fees, plus the ₹5,500 deposit you get back at the end. A boarder adds one-time hostel deposits of ₹500 + ₹1,000 + ₹4,000 = ₹5,500, then ₹9,600 + ₹600 = ₹10,200 a semester (₹61,200 over three years) plus actual mess bills against the ₹5,500 advance each semester. You also stitch your own uniform and apron to CTTC's design.

Admission process and dates

Diploma admissions run once a year. For the 2026-27 session, applications closed on 30 May 2026 and the entrance test was held on 7 June 2026; the courses start in July. The dates for the next session will be in the new prospectus on cttc.gov.in — the 2026 cycle's dates are only a guide to the timing.

How to get into a CTTC diploma

  1. 1

    Check eligibility

Class 10 with Mathematics and Science (Physics, Chemistry or both), 50% aggregate (40% SC/ST). Age 15 to 19 years on 1 July of the admission year, up to 22 for SC/ST. You must not be enrolled in another course.

  2. 2

    Apply online or by post

Fill the form on cttc.gov.in, upload your photo and left-thumb impression, and pay online. Or send the handwritten form to the General Manager, CTTC, B-36 Chandaka Industrial Area, Bhubaneswar 751024 with 'Application for Diploma' on the envelope.

Tip: Applications sent by fax or email are rejected, and late post is your risk.

  3. 3

Sit the two-hour entrance test in Bhubaneswar

Part I: 60 objective Class-10 questions (20 Maths, 20 Physics, 20 Mental Aptitude), +1 for a right answer and −¼ for a wrong one. Part II: 10 short Maths and 10 short Physics questions, 2 marks each. Ties go to the higher Part II score.

  4. 4

Placements

CTTC's AICTE disclosure reports 100% placement for the Tool & Die Making and Mechatronics diplomas in 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26. Salaries ran from ₹1 lakh to ₹4.5 lakh a year, averaging about ₹2 lakh. These are self-reported figures for diploma holders who joined at 15–16, so treat the average as a starting salary, not a ceiling. Students register with the placement cell through the CTTC alumni portal; the placement brochure on the site lists past recruiters.

Extension centres across Odisha

CTTC runs skill training at six extension centres, mostly on ITI or engineering-college campuses. They run short-term and NSQF courses; the diplomas are taught only at the Bhubaneswar campus.

Tool room services for MSMEs

Beyond training, CTTC is a working tool room. For a small engineering unit, the useful services are:

To get a quote, contact the marketing department (0674-2654712) with drawings or a sample. Keep your Udyam registration number ready, since MSME schemes routed through the tool room (such as SFURTI clusters) ask for it. Use our quotation generator to compare its quote with private job shops on the same terms.

Location, timings and contact

  • Address: B-36, Chandaka Industrial Area, Bhubaneswar 751024, Odisha (north Bhubaneswar, Patia–Infocity side).
  • Hours: Monday to Saturday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm; closed Sundays.
  • Training department: 0674-2654742 / 2654743. Reception: 0674-2654700. Email: [email protected].
  • Placement cell: [email protected].

Common mistakes: missing the age window (the prospectus says "not even a single day" of relaxation), applying for a diploma after joining another course, and paying an agent — CTTC takes applications directly. Also check the fee before you pay: older pages (including CTTC's own AICTE disclosure) still describe DTDM as a four-year course, but the 2026-27 prospectus sets all three diplomas at three years.

What to do next

Students: download the prospectus now, check your age on 1 July, and practise the Part I pattern with CTTC's sample paper. If Bhubaneswar is far, compare the Indo-German Tool Rooms in Ahmedabad, Aurangabad and Indore, or CIPET if you lean towards plastics. Manufacturers: send CTTC a drawing for a tooling quote, and consider NSIC registration if you plan to sell to government buyers. Browse every MSME tool room in our technology centre directory.

Frequently asked questions
