How we research, verify and update our guides
Compliance information is only useful if it's right. Here is the process behind every msmetools article.
Last updated: 14 October 2026
Official sources first
Every article is researched from official government sources: acts, rules, notifications, circulars and the relevant portals. Each article lists the sources it relies on, with the date each one was accessed.
One registry for every figure
Rates, thresholds, fees and deadlines that governments change live in a central facts registry, not typed into individual pages. Each fact records its official source, the date it was last verified and how often it must be reviewed.
A check manifest per page
Each article has its own check manifest listing the facts and claims it depends on, so when a figure changes we know exactly which pages to update.
Daily check of official sources
Every morning we check more than 100 official update channels — tax departments, gazettes, ministries and regulators in each country we cover. When a rule, rate or deadline changes, the affected facts and pages are corrected, re-verified and approved by the editor before they go live. Facts and pages also have review dates, and we track open follow-ups that a review date can't capture: pending government decisions, schemes close to expiry and claims that so far rest on a secondary source.
How our pages are written
Guides are researched and drafted with the help of AI tools, then checked against primary sources: every changeable figure must come from an official source recorded in the facts registry, and each article lists the sources it relies on. The site is edited by Sumeet Yadav, who is responsible for this process and for corrections.
What “Verified” means
Articles show “Verified against official sources <date>”. That is the date the page’s figures and claims were last checked against the official sources listed in its Sources & verification section. It is not a promise that nothing has changed since, so for anything you are about to file or pay, follow the official link and confirm.
When a fact in the registry changes, we update the registry and then every page that uses it, and re-verify those pages.
Tools and calculators
Calculators and generators give estimates based on what you enter and the rules we have encoded. They are a starting point, not a filing or a professional opinion.

We use openly licensed images (CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA and the Unsplash licence) and record the credit and licence for each one.
