If you run a business in Canada, sooner or later you'll need to phone the Canada Revenue Agency — about a GST/HST notice, a payroll remittance, a locked account or a debt. This page lists the CRA business telephone numbers exactly as canada.ca shows them in October 2026, with the hours, the right line for each topic, the numbers to use from the territories and from abroad, what to have in front of you when you call, and how to tell a real CRA call from a scam. It's written for owners, bookkeepers and accountants.

Quick answer

The CRA Business Enquiries line is 1-800-959-5525. Agents answer Monday to Friday, 8 am to 8 pm ET; the line is closed weekends and public holidays. From Yukon, the Northwest Territories or Nunavut call 1-866-841-1876, and from outside Canada and the US call 1-613-940-8497 collect.

  • Covers GST/HST, payroll deductions, corporation tax, business registration, My Business Account and payments

  • Business debts and payment arrangements: 1-877-477-5068 (GST/HST), 1-877-548-6016 (payroll), 1-866-291-6346 (corporations)

  • Have your business number, legal name, address and a recent CRA document ready

  • Unsure a caller is the CRA? Hang up and call 1-800-959-5525 yourself

The main CRA business enquiries number

One number handles most business questions. The CRA's telephone page routes payroll deductions, CRA business accounts (including My Business Account and Represent a Client), information returns, payments, GST/HST, corporation tax and business registration changes through the same Business Enquiries line.

The line is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Hours are in Eastern time, which matters if you're in Vancouver: 8 am to 8 pm ET is 5 am to 5 pm Pacific, so the line closes in the middle of a West Coast afternoon. The CRA's contact page also warns that wait times aren't currently published, that your call may be routed to the automated service, and that the automated line closes every night from 3 am to 6 am ET.

Calling from abroad. The CRA accepts collect calls on the outside-Canada number only when they're placed through a telephone operator. If you can't arrange that, a regular international call to the same number works but you pay the charges. Callers using a hearing or speech impairment service can use the TTY line, or register with Canada VRS to use video relay.

Specialist CRA business lines

Several topics have their own numbers. Use them when they match your issue; you'll avoid being transferred.

GST/HST TELEFILE lets eligible small businesses file a GST/HST return by touch-tone phone using the access code printed on their personalized return. It's automated, so you won't speak to anyone, but it runs almost around the clock.

Corporation internet filing helps with technical problems when a corporation files its T2 return electronically — rejected transmissions, error codes and software certification. Questions about how much tax a corporation owes go to the main Business Enquiries line instead.

Business number registration has its own line with shorter hours. The CRA's non-resident GST/HST enquiry page lists the same number, so it's also the line for businesses outside Canada that are registered, or need to register, for GST/HST. Callers outside North America can call 1-613-221-3039 collect.

Excise duties, excise taxes, the fuel charge and the air travellers security charge have their own contact page on canada.ca, with hours that vary by program. If you deal with those taxes, bookmark that page rather than relying on the general line.

Which number for which problem: common business scenarios

You've received a CRA letter or call about a review. Look at the letter first — if it prints a number, use it. The CRA's telephone page also lists dedicated lines for common business reviews: 1-833-566-5419 for a GST/HST registration letter or call, 1-833-305-2033 for a GST/HST and other levies filing letter, 1-855-587-2133 for a GST/HST post-assessing review, 1-833-566-5421 for a T2 post-assessing limit review, and 1-866-221-4063 if the CRA called about your GST/HST or corporate program account registration. For other letters, the general line is 1-800-448-0444 (Monday to Friday, 6:45 am to 7:30 pm ET). Quote the letter's reference number and date.

You disagree with a GST/HST or corporation tax assessment. A phone call can clear up a simple error, such as a payment applied to the wrong period. If it can't, the formal route is a notice of objection, which you can register online in My Business Account. Objections have strict time limits that start from the date on your notice, so don't let a long phone queue run the clock down — file the objection and keep talking.

A payment went to the wrong account or period. This is one of the most common business calls. Before you phone, check My Business Account: for payroll you can request a payment search or transfer a misallocated payment online, and for GST/HST you can view what's been applied. If you still need to call, have the payment date, amount and the bank confirmation number ready.

You're locked out or can't register for My Business Account. Account access problems go to the Business Enquiries line. The agent will verify your identity and the business before resetting anything, so have the business number and a recent notice in front of you.

You're a new business registering for a business number. Most businesses register online through Business Registration Online. If the online process fails or you get an error, the helpline is 1-866-453-0452 — note its shorter hours, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm ET. Our business registration guide explains when you need a business number and the GST/HST registration test.

You're a foreign business selling into Canada. Non-resident businesses with GST/HST questions use the non-resident line (1-866-453-0452 in North America, 1-613-221-3039 collect from elsewhere). Canada's GST is 5%, and HST rates such as 13% in Ontario apply in participating provinces — so knowing which province your customer is in matters before you call.

You run a charity. Charities have their own directorate and line, 1-800-267-2384, open 8 am to 5 pm ET on weekdays.

Business debts, collections and payment arrangements

If your business owes the CRA money and you can't pay in full, call collections before the account escalates. The CRA can set up a payment arrangement if you can show you can't pay the full balance now, but interest keeps running on the unpaid amount. The CRA's debt contact page lists separate lines by tax type:

All other business debts1-877-477-50681-613-221-3003Mon–Fri 8 am–8 pm

Collections lines are closed on weekends and public holidays. Before you call, work out what you can realistically pay each month and have your last few bank statements to hand — the agent will usually ask about your business's income and expenses. A sole proprietor's business income tax debt is a personal income tax debt, because the business isn't a separate taxpayer, so those owners use the individual debt line on the same CRA page.

Payroll debts are treated seriously. Source deductions — income tax, CPP and EI you withheld from employees — are held in trust for the Crown, and directors of a corporation can be personally liable for unremitted amounts. If cash is tight, prioritize payroll remittances and call early.

Before you call: what to have ready

The CRA's contact page asks business callers to have identifying details ready, and the agent will confirm who you are before discussing anything. Gather these before you dial:

Have these in front of you

0/6

Who can speak for the business? The CRA will only discuss a business account with the owner, a partner, a director or officer, or someone authorized as a representative on that account. A bookkeeper or accountant who isn't authorized will be turned away, however helpful they are. Authorizing them before the call — through My Business Account, or by them requesting access through Represent a Client — saves a wasted wait. If a representative calls, the agent asks questions to confirm their identity and checks they're listed on the account.

When to call. The CRA doesn't currently publish wait times, so plan around the obvious peaks: the days just before GST/HST filing dates, the T4 slip deadline at the end of February and corporation balance-due dates. Call early in the day so there's time left if you're transferred — on the West Coast, that means well before 5 pm Pacific, when the agent line closes.

Skip the phone: My Business Account, Represent a Client and online services

A lot of what people call about can be done faster online.

My Business Account is the CRA's online portal for businesses. You sign in with a Sign-In Partner (your online banking credentials), a CRA user ID and password, or — in British Columbia and Alberta — a provincial partner. For GST/HST you can file and adjust returns, file rebates and elections, view and pay balances, calculate instalments, see direct deposit transactions, register a notice of objection and close an account. For payroll you can file a nil remittance, view remitting requirements, request a payment search, transfer a misallocated payment and request a refund. You can also manage direct deposit, read CRA mail, and add or remove authorized representatives.

Represent a Client is the equivalent portal for accountants, bookkeepers and other representatives who manage several businesses. A business owner authorizes the representative, and the representative then sees the client's accounts within the limits of that authorization.

If you're locked out or can't register, the Business Enquiries line handles CRA account access problems too — the telephone page lists "help with your CRA accounts" under 1-800-959-5525.

Free one-on-one help. The CRA's Liaison Officer service offers small business owners and self-employed people free, confidential visits — in person, by phone or online — to explain tax obligations, bookkeeping and common errors. The CRA says the service isn't connected to audits. You request a visit through a form on canada.ca. If you've just registered a business, read our Canadian business registration guide and, in Ontario, our Ontario registration guide.

"Revenue Canada" business telephone number: why the name still shows up

Many people still search for the Revenue Canada business telephone number. Revenue Canada was the name of the federal tax department until 1999. On 1 November 1999 it became the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, and when customs moved to the new Canada Border Services Agency, the tax side became the Canada Revenue Agency, with the name change taking legal effect in December 2005.

So there is no separate "Revenue Canada" number. Any page, directory listing or caller using the old name is either out of date or trying to sound official. The numbers on this page come from canada.ca and are the ones the CRA publishes in October 2026. Old numbers from forums, social media posts and business directories can be wrong or, worse, planted by scammers — always check them against canada.ca before you dial.

How to verify a CRA call and report a scam

Scammers often target businesses with fake "CRA" calls about unpaid GST/HST or payroll, demanding immediate payment. The CRA's own scam page sets out what a genuine agent will and won't do.

Real CRA call vs scam

Identity

Ask questions to confirm you are the owner or an authorized representative

The CRA will never

Threaten arrest, deportation, prison or police

Tone

The CRA may

Payment

The CRA may

Ask you to pay through your bank, My Payment or a pre-authorized debit

The CRA will never

Demand gift cards, prepaid credit cards, e-transfers or cryptocurrency

Fees

The CRA may

Offer free services such as a Liaison Officer visit

The CRA will never

If anything feels off, the CRA's advice is simple: end the call, find an official number and call it yourself. For a business account, that's 1-800-959-5525. Don't call back a number left in a voicemail or shown on caller ID, since both can be faked. The CRA does use text messages, but only for multi-factor authentication codes when you sign in.

If you've been targeted or have lost money:

  1. Report suspicious activity on your business account to the CRA on 1-800-959-5525, or use the automated fraud line 1-800-265-2577 (daily, 6 am to 3 am ET).
  2. Report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online, or call 1-888-495-8501 (Monday to Friday, 10 am to 4:45 pm ET).
  3. Contact your local police if business or personal financial information was compromised.
  4. Tell your bank and consider alerting credit bureaus such as Equifax or TransUnion.

A good habit for any business: check My Business Account regularly for direct deposit changes, new representatives or addresses you don't recognize. Unauthorized changes are a sign someone has your details.

Common mistakes when calling the CRA about a business

  • Calling the individual line for business accounts. 1-800-959-8281 handles personal tax; the agent will transfer you or ask you to call back on the business line.
  • Calling with no business number. Without it the agent can't find the account.
  • Sending an unauthorized accountant to call. Set up the authorization first.
  • Forgetting the time zone. 8 pm ET is 5 pm in British Columbia.
  • Calling about a debt only after enforcement starts. Collections will usually work with you if you call early.
  • Trusting a number from a search ad or old directory. Use canada.ca.

What to do next

Save 1-800-959-5525 in your phone under "CRA Business — official", set up My Business Account so you can handle routine tasks without calling, and authorize your accountant before tax season. If your call is about GST/HST on sales, check your figures with our Canada HST calculator first, and if a customer owes you money, send a polite nudge with the payment reminder generator.
